Devious Maids: Season 4, Episode 1
Sexy Summer continues on TLC UK as this week sees the return of ABC’s Devious Maids, now its fourth season.
Unlike fellow ABC production Mistresses, which spent most of its first episode hinting at possible plotline and providing views with yet more questions, Devious Maids hits the ground almost sprinting as every storyline that will hook viewers for the months to come is set out in front of us. The first episode is so fast-paced that, at time, it feels a little jumbled but it promises to be a very strong and busy season.
Now rich and successful Marisol (Ana Ortiz) is consulting on the film version of her book ‘Coming Clean’ when we first meet up with her. She is at loggerheads with actress Peri Westmore (Marina Klaveno) after she kicks off at guest star Eva Longoria (one of the show’s writers) who plays main Flora (first season flashback!) and even slides in a cheeky Desperate Housewives mention. Marisol is very much still hung up her ex Jesse (Nathan Owens), who now works for the Westmore’s as a butler, so she accepts the advances of another man to show she is over Jesse. Who are you trying to convince, Marisol?
Carmen (Roselyn Sánchez) is still working for the Powell’s in their rebuilt mansion following that explosion. She’s at the beck and call of Adrian (Tom Irwin) who is confined to a wheelchair, now paralysed after being blown up. Or is he? Not one to be far from a scheming plot, the prize he has his eyes on this season is making Evelyn (Rebecca Wisocky) fall in love with him once again, with viewers quickly gauging that she wants a divorce as soon as he can walk again.
Daniela (Sol Rodriguez) turns up in LA under the impression she is visiting her cousin Carmen – although we know that Carmen gave up a baby girl when she was just a teenage, so no prizes for guessing who this stunning beauty turns out to be…
Zoila (Judy Reyes) is fleetingly back at work is the Delatour palace upon her return from New York, where she went to be with her daughter and ex-show member Valentina and Genevieve (Susan Lucci) after her ordeal at the end of season three. Genevieve, as we know, was given the choice between saving Zoila and saving Zoila’s unborn baby but it soon becomes apparent that her choice was the ‘wrong’ one setting out a bumpy path ahead for, arguably, the show’s best partnership as Zoila leaves and takes a new job.
But Genevieve is not without a maid now she also has the help of Rosie (Dania Ramirez) fresh from her not-so-legal-marriage to Mr Spence (Grant Show) breaking up courtesy of Spence’s memory loss, which only last until the end of the episode anyway.
As Spence slips up at old-wife-new-fiance Peri’s party and the memories come crashing back to him, he threatens to go after Peri in full view of the paparazzi. Only, by the end of the series, somebody seems to have gone after her a little too hard…
