Strictly Come Dancing 2013: the celebrities
In a somewhat disorganised manner the fifteen celebrity line-up for the 11th series of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing was revealed over the course of the past five days culminating in a full, BBC confirmed announcement on Monday night’s episode of The One Show.
Click below to find out who will be taking to the floor in a bid for the trophy this autumn.
Broadcasting personality and journalist Vanessa Feltz took the first spot on the official line-up sheet as her jump into the world of sparkles was announced while on air Thursday with It Takes Two host and former contestant Zoe Ball.
Breakfast presenter and newsreader dance troupe member Susanna Reid was reported in last Friday’s papers as the second contestant to commit to the dance floor. Although not officially confirmed until Monday, we were all pretty certain beforehand.
Golfing hero Tony Jacklin was revealed as the first celebrity male dancer after Bruce gave a series of terribly obvious clues to the viewers of Friday’s The One Show including mentions of a ‘stroke of luck’ and how he may enjoy the ‘swing dance’.
Saturday now and clever-clogs Rachel Riley broke the news she was to join the line-up via a, what can only be described as embarrassing, video. Riley took over from Carol Vorderman on Countdown in 2008 and will now don the sparkles and fake tan just like her predecessor did in 2004.
Model and presenter Abbey Clancy – best known for her marriage to footballer Peter Crouch – was one of the first rumoured celebrities for this year and confirmed as true on Twitter regardless of whether she was actually supposed to or not.
Former Dragon and sickeningly rich Deborah Meaden is ready to enter the dancing den as she takes the final female spot on this year’s line-up. Confirmed via the Telegraph on Sunday, but officially announced on The One Show.
Representing the female contingent of soapstar land is crazy-haired beauty Natalie Gumede who became a prime target for the show after constantly admitting last year how she adored the show. Gumede became a household name after a stint in ITV’s Coronation Street as Kirsty who repeatedly abused her partner Tyrone and eventually ended up behind bars.
To the popstar category now and Sophie Ellis-Bextor is set for the glitterball challenge hoping to follow in the successful footsteps of winner Harry Judd or semi-finalist Holly Valance.
Singer and ex-Bond girl Fiona Fullerton brings the glamorous has-been air to this year’s proceedings. Well, every year needs a has-been.
Star designer Julien Macdonald moves from lazily commenting on dresses on the It Takes Two sofa over to the dance-floor this year. A fair few people had Macdonald down as becoming half of the first Strictly Come Dancing same-sex couple but to no avail, because there are eight female celebrities instead.
Hairy Biker Dave Myers will swap presenting partner Simon King for a petite professional dancer and enters the ballroom. I dare to say he takes the position of this year’s write-off-before-it-even-begins contestant.
Hollyoaks actor Ashley Taylor Dawson– who was a singer for three whole years as well – represents the male sexy soapstar classification for series 11. Dawson is well known for his long-serving role in the Channel 4 soap opera as Darren Osbourne.
Former rugby union hotshot Ben Cohen works his way inside the Strictly scrum. Some may also know him for his work as an activist which he has been heavily involved in since his retirement a couple of years ago.
Last spotted in BBC’s own Waterloo Road, Mark Benton will compete on Strictly Come Dancing probably being the one we all write off before the series starts. I heard a rumour that ‘the guy who did the Abbey National adverts’ was appearing on the show and hoped for Alan Davies but alas…
Long-suffering BBC Casualty actor Patrick Robinson completes this year’s not-so-brilliant male line-up. Robinson is best known as charge nurse Ash in the hospital drama.
Plucked from the depth of my brain using my gut feeling and some logic (no logic).
