Strictly Come Dancing 2012 – Launch show!
Series 10 is here!
This is the third series to have a launch show and I’m still undecided on whether I like the whole idea or not. It’s a bit, well, odd but I guess it brings home that competition vibe and we do get some brilliant dancing out of it. Plus, it’s Strictly! So on with the show!
Well, apart from the annoying lyrics intertwined with our favourite tune in the world, the opener was very…pink. Lovely to see a professional dance first thing and a very clever idea to dance around the building. Awesome moves as always, complex choreography but yet nothing is ever too much for our stars! I do love them and I am so excited to see some brilliant routines this year.
I never really know how to review these, so I don’t really bother too much. They’re professionals for a reason, and this is that reason. Karen seems very confident and that’s what we like to see. Excited to see more from her. On a less dancey note, what has happened to Pasha’s hair?
Ian Waite and Darcey Bussell
The first Adele of the series! Didn’t take long. I can’t help thinking that the BBC really regret shafting Ian, he appears back so much! Not that I’m complaining, he seems like a lovely guy and he’s a brilliant dancer. I was sceptical of Darcey upon first announcement on the grounds that she was a Ballerina – just how elegant is she on the ballroom front? The answer: very. I like her. Lovely showcase.
Bringing your own dancers is an automatic black mark. Also, I don’t think I actually understood a word of that song. Except for ‘go home’.
The pairings – female celebrities
Fern Britton and Artem Chigvintsev
Dani Harmer and Vincent Simone
Victoria Pendleton and Brendan Cole
Kimberley Walsh and Pasha Kovalev
Jerry Hall and Anton Du Beke
Lisa Riley and Robin Windsor
Denise Van Outen and James Jordan
The pairings – male celebrities
Sid Owen and Ola Jordan
Nicky Byrne and Karen Hauer
Johnny Ball and Aliona Vilani
Michael Vaughan and Natalie Lowe
Louis Smith and Flavia Cacace
Richard Arnold and Erin Boag
Colin Salmon and Kristina Rihanoff
I got a total of SEV-ERN right. A couple were my second guesses but still, not bad going. Happy Aliona and Artem do not have the poster boys and girls again this year. Poor old Erin seemingly without a chance again and VERY happy that Victoria and Brendan are partnered – so excited to see where that goes!
Class of 2012
This is the first impression train. Well, partially. It’s so quick and their are so many it’s rather hard to follow it. However, at a glance, Louis looks like he’ll be able to handle the complexity and Denise Van Outen looks as if she might have this already. Not that it was possible to ascertain much from that dance – PEOPLE OVERLOAD.
And now…we wait.
We have 3 weeks until the first show on Friday 5th October 2012. In the mean time, training clips and snaps will ebb their way onto our computer/smartphone screens via BBC Strictly and the couples themselves. It’s these 3 weeks that give us some idea of what we are looking at because the group dance hardly shows us much. Always fun.
See you then,
