Dancing On Ice – The real competition begins!

And we fall asleep in a two hours 20 minute show.

For the sake of my blog not being as boring as one might expect from 140 minute show, I am going to keep each summary short and sweet. Partly because I don’t know what to say and partly because I do not want it to drag on too long. Mostly the former, though. Even the commentator sounds like he makes up moves! I mean ‘the Wizard of Oz step’? Really now?

So tonight the celebrities all skate together for the first time in an extraordinarily long show which will be plagued with adverts and test our patience. This, is ENDURANCE TEST ON ICE. AND I believe it is Movie Night! Which means props and themes. But props actually enhance the boredom of the dire ice-skating we see in these early stages from some. Hopefully they won’t overdo the theme though. Although judging by the fact that they have dressed Christine Bleakley as an Oscar, I don’t hold out much hope.

Chico and Jodeyne Higgins Top Gun

Procrastinationnnnnn! But at least he is skating. And alone! You can really see he has stepped it up a gear this week in training – that speed, extra precision and those lifts and throws in there. All carried off well and, well, just look at that smile!

Judges scores = Louie 6.5, Robin 5.5, Katarina 6= 18/30

Rosemary Conley and Mark Hanretty – Beaches

Oh I love this song. My best friend recorded it in a studio. It’s honestly awesome. Lovely voice.

Rosemary is still visibly very unsteady and looking as if she may fall down any minute. When I heard the song I was expecting graceful skating and it wasn’t exactly there really. I didn’t enjoy it although a few seconds impressed me with the ‘double stag carry’ (Ta Tony) and that. But still.

Judges scores = Louie 3, Robin 3.5, Katarina 4 = 10.5/30

Sam Nixon and Alexandra Schauman – Kung Fu Panda

You know he looks like Michael Mcintyre. Just saying. But yeah, skating improved marginally by the fact that he managed to balance and convincingly move. The back flip was pulled off thank heavens but it was all a bit…gimmicky? But still, ‘the dragon lady lift’ was ace.

Judges scores = Louie 4.5, Robin 5, Katarina 6.5 = 16/30

Chemmy Alcott and Sean Rice – Sister Act

Those Nuns are REALLY distracting me.

Some nice lifts there although one of them did go wrong nearly ending in a crash. She actually seemed less steady than before but you can see she is really trying. I think we need a chance to see more from her. And flying Nun lift? Honestly Tony.

Judges scores = Louie 3, Robin 3, Katarina 4.5 = 10.5/30

Corey Feldman and Brooke Castile – Stand By Me

Boring. Boring. Boring. That routine was literally Corey and his hair strand going around and around the rink. His balance is atrocious as well and he so could not get into those lifts! Get out man. Note to skating gods: do not listen to celebrities and choreography.

Judges scores = Louie 2.5, Robin 2.5, Katarina 3 = 8/30

Jennifer Ellison and Daniel Whiston – Dreamgirls

Impressive choreography! Higher standard than one might expect from Week 2 but she is more than capable of it! Some of those tricks looked scary but she kept her cool and focused completely. Masked her pain and carried on. She even skated alone for a duration! Bravo.

Judges scores = Louie 6.5, Robin 5, Katarina 6.5 = 18/30

Mark Rhodes and Frankie – The Blues Brothers

Cardinal sin is plodding about off the ice! His balance seems to have improved itself though, i.e he is actually standing up whilst skating. He definitely has musicality nailed if anything but not as busy as I would have liked to have seen it. Not too many tricks to catch my eye there.

Judges scores = Louie 3.5, Robin 3, Katarina 4 = 10.5/30

Jorgie Porter and Matt Evers – 9 to 5

She is a strong skater – there are no two ways about it. Strong and elegant skater, confident with her footwork and specialist lifts. All of which she can do with stamina, precision and all round strength. Busy and fast routine. Very good.

Judges scores = Louie 7.5, Robin 6.5, Katarina 7.5 = 21.5/10

Matthew Wolfenden and Nina Ulanova – Saturday Night Fever

He is one fantastic skater. He looks like he was born to skate! I mean, he’s confident, he’s fast, he’s precise, he’s perfect and he managed not to drop the partner this time! Lots of tricky lifts in there and all perfectly executed.

Judges scores = Louie 6, Robin 8, Katarina 7.5 =21.5/30

Charlene Tilton and Matt Gonzalez – Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

What on EARTH is she wearing?!

She can actually skate this time although her standard is significantly lower than some others tonight. I was very impressed with the last flip/lift because I wouldn’t have rated her confidence levels up there yet. Very pleasant to watch actually.

Judges scores = Louie 5, Robin 4, Katarina 6 = 15/30

Sebastien Foucan and Brianne Delcourt – Donnie Darko

What a lovely song! Should be an elegant skate to go with it. Very slow and concise – controlled as well. Impressive little solo bit in the middle and that ending position was just ace – bit weird though. Still, coming in at third maybe?

Judges scores = Louie 5, Robin 6.5, Katarina 6.5 = 18/30

Andy Whyment and Vicky Ogden – Grease

Had to be one I guess. But that wig needs skates of its own! Dear lord!

Seems to actually be some skating technique tonight! One of those hook lifts and the underarm swing was good as well. Andy was definitely less focused on watching his feet and move focused on performing the routine this time! Still comical…but in a good way!

Judges score = Louie 4.5, Robin 4.5, Katarina 5 = 14/30

Heidi Range and Andrei Lipanov – Goldfinger

Wow he certainly was flinging her about there! She looks fantastic and that was fantastic! Decent footwork, lovely lifts and incredible tricks! She has come on leaps and bounds in the 2 weeks so I think she will just get better and better!

Judges scores = Louie 5, Robin 5, Katarina 5.5 = 15.5/30

Wow, innuendos on ice! Dodgy ITV! Got to love live TV.

Right let’s take an hour out and re shall reconvene for the skate-off!

Missed the whole damn thing and woke up to some weird programme about South Africa!

Caught some of the action (and ads) on +1 and your assessments seem pretty accurate.
